Meet The Team
Founder & Co-director
Nicky Parker
I’m a writer, publisher and strategic thinker. My specialism is in finding that sweet spot that sparks shared understanding. I love to bring minds together by simplifying and humanising the complex so that it makes sense easily.

Integrity and a strongly collaborative approach are key. I’m known for bringing together diverse perspectives – from writers and artists, policy experts and lawyers, to children and Hollywood superstars.

On behalf of Amnesty International, I’m author of These Rights Are Your Rights: An empowering guide for children everywhere (Andersen Press, 2024), and co-author with Angelina Jolie and Professor Geraldine Van Bueren of Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth (Andersen, 2021). I have considerable knowledge of children’s human rights.

I’m currently Lead Consultant on Seen and Heard, a three-year European research project that’s exploring links between children’s stories and creative protest, with Amnesty Poland and the Universities of Malta, Humboldt in Berlin and Wroclaw.

For many years I ran Amnesty UK’s publishing programme, with a focus on creating and curating children’s books and educational projects, as well as running powerful book events for adults.
I am a trustee of English PEN. Previously Board Chair of the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, I’m on the steering group of CLPE’s Reflecting Realities, an annual survey of ethnic representation in British children’s books.
Founder and Co-director
Michael Smith
I’m a strategic marketing specialist and writer. My experience lies in the critical space where words meet the reader, where trust is formed and loyalty created.

My focus is on the recipient of organisational message and how honesty in that message can create belief and nurture reputation. A rigorous assessment of systems performance is therefore also central to my approach.

I have a background in the publishing industry, including as Group Marketing Director at Informa Publishing Group and Marketing Director for Kogan Page.
With a specialism in subscriptions marketing gained in professional publishing, peer-reviewed journals and digital products, I have specific expertise in harnessing data and content to maximise subscriber/member engagement. These skills have proved particularly effective when working with membership and charitable bodies.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and have an MA in Medieval Literatures and Languages from the University of York.

As well as being the author and illustrator of three published translations of Middle English romances, I’m currently studying for a PhD in English and Creative Practice.

My research is on the translation, performance and visual potential of an early fifteenth century stanzaic text. As you can see, words and their meaning are in my blood!
